Objectives and Contents

Objectives: The aim of this course is to enable students to learn the fundamental concepts, tools, and theories of macroeconomics. Students will be brought to a level where they understand the main variables of macroeconomics (e.g., national income, inflation, unemployment), economic fluctuations, and the effects of monetary and fiscal policies on economic activity. Furthermore, students' skills in analyzing economic data and interpreting current economic policies will be developed.
Content: The topics covered in the Macroeconomics course generally include the following: Definition, scope, and basic concepts of macroeconomics; National income (GDP) and calculation methods; Aggregate supply and aggregate demand equilibrium; Unemployment, inflation, and economic growth; Money supply and money demand, central bank policies; Basic macroeconomic models such as IS-LM; The effects of fiscal and monetary policies on the economy; International macroeconomic issues (balance of payments, foreign exchange markets). These topics are covered theoretically and supported with relevant current data and economic examples, so that students acquire the knowledge and competence to perform macroeconomic analysis both theoretically and practically.
